The Band
Organic!
1. A living organism in organization or development; interconnected;
fundamental; whole.
2. The Brooklyn, NY based organ trio featuring co-leaders:
John Cabán – guitar/loops/slide
Bennett Paster – organ/synth-bass/keyboards
Organic! performs live improvised compositions. Each performance
features spontaneous new music that is fresh but rooted in the tradition
of 70’s instrumental funk and R&B. The music is accessible-
fun and funky. Together the band members speak an intuitive harmonic
and melodic dialogue. Deep, greasy grooves provoke eclectic tempo
shifts and sudden dynamic changes. Organic! has been developing
this explosive musical synergy for over 10 years.
Guitarist, composer and bandleader John
Cabán has soaked up and saturated music scenes
from New England to Europe, New Orleans to New York City. His roots
grow deep into rock, blues, funk, R&B, ambient and world music.
He has performed and/or recorded with Art Neville, Bo Diddley, Kenny
Kirkland, Layla Hathaway, Brother
Love, Pete
Francis, Dispatch,
Neycha, Drum ’n’
Bass mavericks Boomish, Italian superstar Gianna
Nannini and many others. John’s rich tonal palette, dynamic
feel and lyrical sensitivity make him a unique and sought out player
on the New York scene.
Keyboardist, composer and producer Bennett Paster
is one of New York City's most creative and versatile musicians.
He has performed original music at clubs, concerts and festivals
in the United States, the Caribbean and Europe and has been a featured
performer with jazz stars Cassandra Wilson, Kurt Elling, Billy Hart
and Ndugu Chancler, among others. He is currently the musical director
and keyboardist for Broadway and screen star Melissa
Errico. In addition to co-leading Organic!, Bennett performs
regularly with his Jazz-Latin band Grupo
Yanqui and funky soul brothers Yes
Virginia.
Drummer Tony Mason finds his home in funk, rock,
R&B and acoustic jazz. He has toured the United States and Europe
with Leo Nocentelli of the Meters, blues legend Bill Simms, Pete
Francis, Joan Osborn, The
Bloomdaddies, The Soup Dragons, Goats
in Trees, Holly Palmer, jazz guitarists Melvin Sparks, Rodney
Jones and Leni Stern, New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint, and the
renowned Babatunde Olatunji. His consistent, honest, “old
school” style keeps him in high demand both on stage and in
the studio.
Drummer, Courtney
Williams got his start at age 11 playing in Morningstar
Baptist Church in Queens, New York. He recorded the Hip-Hop classic
“Perfection” with Run DMC when he was 16. Williams has
played with many of the biggest R&B, hip hop and jazz artists
of the past 20 years, including R. Kelly and Dru Hill. He has toured
extensively with Color Me Badd, Kenny Garrett, All-4-One and is
an active member of the Black Rock Coalition. Courtney’s
debut CD as a bandleader, entitled “Storyteller”
